Meet Treska Watson
Advisory Board Member
Treska is a born and raised Vancouver Islandite that has always had a passion for travel and seeing the world. She lives in one of the most beautiful places in the world (for real) but she knows that beauty and wonder are everywhere so she makes it her mission to get out there as much as possible. Treska leads a large non-profit organization in Victoria BC but when she is able…the road calls. She is grateful to have found Laura & Type 2 Travel through a recent trip to Morocco because it was nothing short of amazing. The destination was unbelievably beautiful, but the people are what she loved the most. An instant connection with Laura and Mel and how this company cares so deeply for its travelers and the experiences they have was an instant yes for her. Treska is honoured to be the “newest” to Laura’s travel BFF roster and hopes to bring her professional capacity and passion for how Laura operates to the board.
Rapid Fire Q&A

I was born and raised in Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island, so I’ve lived in a prime destination for travelers from all over the world. I often saw my island through the eyes of travelers, and saw how in awe they were of the natural beauty here. I take that same awe with me when I travel—this world has so much natural beauty, from landscapes to people!

I went to India in 2019, before the world shifted. It was somewhere I had always wanted to go, and it deeply impacted me.
-
My sense of humor, my curly hair, and my deep care for people. I’m the one that can tell on a trip if someone’s having a tough time for some reason, or if someone is overwhelmed—in a good way—by how amazing a place or a landmark is.

I think something goes wrong on every trip, but I learned years ago to just roll with it. Your suitcase breaks in the airport? Time to buy one and repack on the floor, girl. You’ve got places to be! You’re stuck in a protest/traffic jam in rural India? Not much to do but lock in and keep your chin up. Everything can be figured out if you’re flexible.

Ohhhhh—SO many. But I definitely think about those street tacos I had in a small Mexican village for breakfast one morning. No taco has come close since.
-
Don’t overpack, and don’t buy anything. I fail wonderfully at both every single trip—ha!

Can I say hundreds of them? It’s the broken English/Spanish/Arabic conversations I’ve had with strangers. It’s the kids in a village walking their goat to the river—and they stop and want to meet you. It’s ATV’ng in the Sahara Desert and realizing that I freaking LOVE ripping it up. It’s the little things that I carry in my heart from each trip.

I am inspired by people that embody hope. This world is full of really difficult stuff but I see people helping and growing and trying everyday. That’s hope personified, and it inspires me to do the same.
